This is a nice selection of 1st and 2nd Royal Octavo Edition hand-colored prints from John James Audubon.  I will add some details on the publications later..JOHN JAMES AUDUBON (1785-1851), perhaps the best-known of all Bird artists, particularly to collectors in the United States, was actually of French birth and heritage!!  He was sent to America from Paris in 1803 by his father in an effort to quell his rebellious youth.  He was passionate about collecting and drawing the wealth of unknown birds in his adopted homeland and after 30 years of marriage, finally provided an income for his family with the publication of Birds of America!!  As he knew the birds so well in the field, he was able to instill tremendous life into his paintings which have endured through countless editions and formats....
