Most of the prints on our site offer you the option of selecting a custom mat. That is, the top decorative mat and a hinged mounting board. If the item description states "your choice of mat", then you will find these selections below. Otherwise, the description will state "including the mat as pictured". On the prints where there is a choice, we have selected one each of the French Wash and Marble designs to feature the particular print and we will indicate in the print description others that work very well. However, the final decision is yours!!
Each mat is made when ordered so there will be a slight delay to allow us time to complete the design. Usually this is just over the following weekend. With all of our time constraints, we cannot process custom orders, so please don't ask for a special color, etc. The mats are generally sized 3 1/2 inches around the image. Everything we use is Archival and Museum quality. The ruling lines and wash are done using Windsor & Newton Designer's Gouache and an old-fashioned ruling pen!! The Marble paper is hand-made especially for us by a superb artist in the Pacific Northwest and the thin gold paper strip is from a specialty paper shop in England.
Our personal preference are the French Wash designs which tend to be subtle and accent the colors found in the print. However, the Marbleized designs will draw your eye into the print from a distance and, therefore, will give the image tremendous "wall power". The Marble paper is much more vibrant than these digital images might appear!! If you would like a Marble "electric" color rating from 1-10, the Blue would rate a 9, the Yellow and Salmon around a 6 and the Green a 4!! With so many colors, it has been virtually impossible to properly display these in a digital image. The mat board is known as "Fairfield White" and is made by Bainbridge as part of their Alphamat Artcare Archival series. The color is a nice creme and it has a light texture to it, very similar to our "wallpaper" with the Fox Hill logo. What looks like a dark brown line is actually a thin strip of satin gold paper which has been speckled with a reddish-brown paint, very much like an antique gold fillet on a painting.
Under each archway of mats will be a "Gallery" button which will take you to a selection of fine prints displayed in the relative color, both in the wash and marble designs. If you would like to see a print in one of these particular designs, please email us and we will send you a digital image!!
